BIOGRAPHY

Childhood

Top of his class, Georges-Henri, was always interested in books, and understood very young that he would never be a farmer like his father. One day, called to help with the daily routine, a cow violently flogged him in the face with a blow of the tail. The boiler, the milking bench and Georges-Henri all ended up in the slab collecting the manure.

Education

Saint-Lin – Laurentides primary school, a teaching certificate at the Joliette seminary and a baccalaureate in pedagogy, part-time.

Professionnal career

Georges-Henri was passionate about teaching and an accomplished teacher. 45 years with young and old have marked several generations of men and women who are today leaders in our communities.

Personal and family life

A poorly shod shoemaker, it was Marie, his wife, who took care of homework and lessons at home.

Travel and countries visited

A “pilgrimage” trip to the ancestors in the region of Perche, France, deeply marked him. The discovery of ancestors, names, cemeteries, places visited remained among his subjects of conversation several months after his return.

Achievements and distinctions

Recognized by his peers, he became a member of the Order of Excellence in Education of Quebec. In 1967, he contributed to the founding of the Cégep de Joliette and, later, to the creation of the University of the 3rd Age.

Passion and hobby

Reading, theater, folklore were his main distractions. Fishing and pétanque allowed him to be with his friends.

A little more information

Georges-Henri was a member of several associations but one which was particularly close to his heart is the Association des Lebourdais d’Amérique. Since his trip to France, he regularly consulted the website of this association in order to collect information on his ancestors.
